The Canadian Open Hickory Championship

The annual Canadian Open Hickory Championship is hosted by the Legends Golf and Country Club and features players dressed in period style outfits (plus fours, tams, etc.) and playing with hickory-shafted golf clubs. A fun and competitive tournament all rolled into one, a great time is had by all with many players returning year after year. Many players come early or stay on to play at some of the local/mountain golf courses or to see the sights and make an extended holiday out of their trip.

Upcoming 2025 Canadian Open Hickory Championship

August 11-15, 2025

Where else can you get 5 days of hickory golf, meals, and merriment at this close to 1935 prices! It’s the 2-day hickory road trip followed by the 3-day 26th annual Canadian Open Hickory Championship at the Legends Golf and Country Club. We already have had significant interest from past participants and previous champions. 2024 saw 94 players on the Friday. Save the date. It’s the 26th anniversary and you all are invited! The Canadian Open uses all 27 holes of this picturesque course over 3 days. The tentative schedule:

August 11 and 12
  • In 2025 we will continue with the popular road trip. Many arrive a few days early or stay a few days afterwards to golf at a variety of courses. In past years, early arrivers went on the annual hickory golf road trip on the Monday and Tuesday. Stay tuned to see what courses will be featured.
August 13
  • Practice rounds and 4-person scramble team event—a good way to familiarize yourself with the golf course and shake some of the rust off those hickory skills!
  • Outdoor BBQ, trade show, view local collection
August 14
  • Thursday is the usual day for the annual Canada/US Ryder cup competition for the Casey Cup. We will reinstate this into the rotation if sufficient numbers of our American friends are able to travel—stay tuned! Alternatives include the popular 2-person scramble or “Alberta vs the rest of the world” Ryder Cup format.
August 15
  • The 25th annual Canadian Open Hickory Championship
  • BBQ and presentations after the golf
